Owner and instructor Dawn Meyer, along with instructor Christina Martinez, bring over 40 years of combined experience sharing the magic of art, crafts, and creative expression with both children and adults. As dedicated career art educators with degrees and certifications in Art Education, they’ve taught in a wide variety of settings and love creating meaningful, engaging experiences for every artist who walks through the door.​

​Mini Makers Art- (ages 4-8) - A fun, energetic and engaging class for our younger artists that will incorporate beautifully illustrated children’s books, exciting animal and nature subjects and wonderful things kids love! This class introduces all the art elements and principles in a fun, encouraging and engaging way! Young artists will create beautiful projects that are bright, colorful, unique and filled with artistic foundations and techniques. Many different media will be explored, and a wide variety of styles will be introduced such as drawing, painting, mixed media, 3D art and collage. This class will also include Global, Wildlife, and Storybook Art. The most important aspects of the art projects are discovery, exploration, and individual creativity. Our classes are focused on our students’ creativity and imagination, while enjoying art and the process.

Art Experiences (ages 5-12)- Art Experiences is a class that answers the “who, what, why, when and how” of art in past and present times. Discover an exciting world of art experiences. Students learn the basic, necessary skills and elements of art, alongside the lives of the great masters and new contemporary artists. Artists that will inspire our creations are Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe and many more! All in a fun and encouraging atmosphere that sparks their own creativity. The fundamental elements and principles of art will be emphasized. The most important aspects of the art projects are discovery, exploration, and individual creativity. Independent thinking is encouraged, while skills and responsibility are met through individual decisions.

Beyond Art Experiences (ages 11+) Is similar to our popular class for younger artists and also answers the “who, what, why, when and how” of art in past and present times. But this level goes “Beyond” our younger student’s curriculum and explores the great artists in more depth. We will create more sophisticated art projects and artworks that challenge both middle and high school age students. Discover a whole new world of art experiences. Students learn the basic, necessary skills and elements of art, alongside the lives of the great masters and new contemporary artists. This class continues our exploration of art history in a variety of mediums and techniques. It is a well-rounded art curriculum for all students, incorporating various 2D and 3D art works. The fundamental elements and principles of art will be emphasized while skills and technique improve through encouragement and creative problem solving.

Passport to Art: A World Journey (ages 5-12)
Pack your imagination — we’re traveling the world through art! In this bright, hands‑on global adventure, students receive their own Aurora Light Arts passport and “visit” a new country each week. Each stop includes a cultural story, a look at traditional colors or patterns, and a creative project inspired by that region’s art forms.
From Japanese windsocks to Mexican folk art, Australian dot painting to French impressionism, young artists explore global creativity while building skills in painting, collage, sculpture, and mixed media. Every class is a stand‑alone journey — full of color, culture, and discovery.

Intro to Drawing 1 (ages 9-15) FALL SEMESTER--A traditional drawing fundamentals class that will cover the basics of drawing in four 4-week sessions. These skills will build upon one another, so it is best to attend both consecutive sessions but not required. Intro to Drawing is designed for students who are eager to explore the exciting world of drawing! Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil before or dabbled in drawing and want to improve, this class will help you build your skills and boost your creativity in a fun, supportive environment.
In this class, students will:

Learn the basics of drawing: We’ll start with foundational skills like shading, line work, perspective and proportions, and gradually build up to more advanced techniques.

Practice with different materials: Explore pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, pens, and markers to see what students like best and how to use each medium effectively.

Learn step-by-step: Each class will feature simple, clear demonstrations, and time to develop your skills.

Structured content and subjects- As a traditional class we will cover drawing techniques students can use to enhance and strengthen their skills in all areas of drawing. Students will gain skills to tackle their favorite content with confidence.

Intro to Drawing 2- Ages 11-15- FALL SEMESTER
(ages 9 & 10 can enroll if they have taken Intro to Drawing 1)
The next level in our Intro to Drawing series allows students to deepen their understanding and strengthen their technique as concepts continue to build in four 4-week sessions.
Whether you’re continuing from Drawing 1 or already have a foundation, students will expand their abilities in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment.
In this class, students will:

Build on core drawing skills:
We’ll continue developing foundational techniques such as shading, line work, perspective, and proportions while introducing more advanced skills and refined detail. -
Refine use of materials:
Students will keep exploring pencils, charcoal, colored pencils, pens, and markers, learning greater control and more expressive ways to use each medium. -
Strengthen observation and technique:
Through guided practice, students will learn to see like artists—improving accuracy, depth, and composition while gaining confidence in their work.

Intro to Painting & Color Theory 1 & 2(Ages 9–15) Spring Semester
Intro to Painting & Color Theory 1& 2 are foundational classes that explores the magic of color and the joy of painting through four 4-week sessions. Each session builds upon the last, so attending sessions consecutively is encouraged, but not required.
In this class, students will:
-Learn the foundations of painting
-Explore color theory
-Experiment with materials
-Work with watercolor and acrylic paints while learning how to use different tools and surfaces effectively.
-Follow step-by-step guidance
Each class includes clear, approachable demonstrations along with plenty of time to explore and practice new techniques.
Through structured projects and guided exploration, students will gain the tools they need to confidently create their own paintings and bring their ideas to life.

Drawing Animals: from Head to Tail (ages 8-13)
In this new and exciting class, students learn how to draw animals of all kinds. We’ll practice capturing likeness from photos and live observation, simplifying anatomy, and using core drawing fundamentals to make artwork feel alive. Along the way, we also explore what these animals are like in the wild—how they live, how they impact our world, and why we should care about wildlife.
This special class is co-taught by Dawn & Grace.

Discover the joy of painting in a low‑pressure, creative sketchbook class designed for ages 12–adult. Explore color theory, experiment with watercolor, acrylics, markers, and mixed media, and learn how artists use sketchbooks to develop ideas and confidence. You’ll create multiple painted studies, play with palettes and textures, and choose your favorite sketch to turn into a final artwork. A perfect class for beginners and returning artists who want a fun, freeing space to grow creatively.

Art Skills Studio (Ages 8-15 & Adults and students12+)
Art Skills Studio takes students on a rotating journey through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, 3D work, and more — all while learning the foundations that make great art. Perfect for young artists, teens, and adults ready to explore new mediums.
A dynamic, hands‑on class designed to build confident, well‑rounded artists through a deep dive into the elements of art, principles of design, and essential art‑making techniques.
Every two weeks, students explore a new medium block, learning how artists think, experiment, and create across a wide range of materials. From expressive drawing and vibrant pastels to ink work, printmaking, collage, 3D construction, painting, and more — each block introduces fresh techniques, creative challenges, and opportunities to grow

Explorations in Sculpture (Ages 8-15)
Step into the third dimension and bring your imagination to life! Explorations in Sculpture invites students to transform raw materials into tangible masterpieces, tracing the path from ancient monuments to the bold installations of today. From the tactile grip of molding clay and the structural challenge of wire armatures to the delicate precision of paper folding, students will gain mastery over professional tools and studio space. We anchor every project in the core elements of design—balance, form, and texture—empowering students to build works of art that stand tall with both technical strength and personal spirit.

Intro to Sewing- Fall Sessions 1&2 (Ages 8 Through Adult)
This 8 week intensive takes students from "how do I thread this?" to "look what I made!" as students master the fundamentals of machine sewing. Each week, we’ll tackle a brand-new project that builds their creative confidence and results in handmade items they’ll actually use.
Instead of just practicing on scraps, we focus on project-based learning. Students will explore fabric selection, precise cutting techniques, and the magic of 3D construction. By the end of the session, they will have crafted a collection of handmade essentials—including their own custom tote bags, quilted home décor, and zippered travel pouches. It’s the perfect blend of technical skill-building and artistic flair.
For this class students will be learning on their own machines. This will help them transition from classroom projects to home projects more successfully.

Intro to Crochet-Fall Sessions 3&4- (Ages 8 Through Adult)
Discover the relaxing and rewarding art of crochet! This class takes students beyond the basics, teaching them how to use a single hook to transform colorful yarn into amazing handmade treasures. We focus on building the "muscle memory" of crochet while working on projects that kids and teens actually love.
Our makers will explore a variety of styles and techniques, including:

Artful Journaling (Ages 8-15)
Artists will have the chance to go beyond the sketchbook and become a creator of their own handmade world. In this class, students won't just fill pages—they will engineer them.
This class focuses on the beautiful art of Reclaimed Journaling, where we transform everyday materials into a professional-grade, tactile masterpiece. Students will learn to:

Construct the Foundation: Build a custom journal from the ground up, learning the fundamentals of bookbinding and structure.

Engineered Artistry: Master the "interactive" side of paper crafts by creating hidden pockets, complex folds, and secret compartments within their pages.

Curated Mixed Media: Design small-scale artworks using a variety of textures, vintage-style papers, and layered mediums to tell a visual story.

Please fill out the registration form and we will send you a Preregistration confirmation. Please let us know if you are a SUFS scholarship student. Payment can be made in person by check or cash. We also accept PayPal, Venmo and Zelle.

Session payment must be paid at or before the first class.

Cancellation Policy-By registering your child you agree that you will receive an email invoice before each session or art class, payment is due on or before the first class. If you must cancel your registration before the class begins PLEASE let us know as we hold your child’s space in good faith. If Aurora Light Arts cancels a lesson we will offer make up options. If your child cannot attend a class that has been paid for there will be an option for a make up class. There are no refunds.

Fiber Arts Explorations, invites students to dive into a hands-on journey through time—exploring how fiber has been used for ages and how it’s evolving in the modern art world. From the rhythm of weaving and felting to the magic of fabric dyeing and sewing, students will build confidence as they learn to use studio materials safely. We weave the fundamental principles of art into every lesson, helping your child create with both skill and heart.
